From Ohio to Uruguay: Cultivating Language in a Neuro-Affirming Space

For many, the word "classroom" brings to mind rigid desks, heavy textbooks, and a "one-size-fits-all" approach to learning. But at English With GG, I believe that every student’s journey starts with a single, powerful seed. My role is to be a personal gardener, cultivating the perfect environment for each unique learner to thrive.

Today, that garden exists in two forms: a vibrant digital space and my dedicated classroom in Maple Heights. But as I look toward the horizon—specifically toward the rolling hills of Uruguay in 2027—the vision for what this "forest" can become is growing more ambitious every day.

The Heart of the Matter: Neuro-Affirming Pedagogy

At the core of my teaching is a philosophy that is reshaping modern education: Neuro-Affirming Pedagogy.

In traditional English and ESL instruction, the focus has often been on "fixing" students—viewing ADHD, Autism, or Dyslexia as deficits to be overcome. Through my studies in Educational Psychology and my practice, I take the opposite approach. I see these not as "broken" traits, but as natural variations in the human brain.

My goal is to provide Universal Design for Learning (UDL). Instead of adding "accommodations" as an afterthought, I build flexibility into the lesson from the very start.

  • Tactile Phonics: Using physical objects to ground language acquisition.

  • Biophilic Design: Integrating nature and movement to support emotional regulation.

  • Agency-First Learning: Giving students the power to influence their own academic path.

Professional Growth: Mastering Business English

Beyond foundational language skills, I specialize in Business English. For professionals, fluency is about more than just grammar; it’s about socio-pragmatics—understanding the social layer of a conversation.

I help my students navigate the nuances of professional diplomacy: how to disagree respectfully, how to use active listening cues (backchanneling), and how to command a room with confidence. By combining psychological safety with high-level coaching, I ensure that my students don't just pass tests—they thrive in boardrooms and international networking events.

The Vision: A Sustainable Sanctuary in Uruguay

Currently, I operate out of a multi-sensory home classroom designed to reduce dysregulation and spark curiosity. But I have a dream that is literally made of earth and straw.

When I relocate to Uruguay, my dream is to establish a physical English school grounded in sustainable bioconstruction. I am envisioning a cob house learning environment—a structure built from the earth that is naturally soundproof, thermally regulated, custom dimensions and architecture that is aesthetically calming and learning spaces for everyones learning style.

This won't just be an English school; it will be a sanctuary that welcomes all, but is designed specifically for the neurodivergent and international communi

ty. A place where the architecture itself supports the mental clarity needed for deep, meaningful learning.
